6 Layer Twisted Tulsi Kanthi Mala is a kanthi in which six strands of Tulsi beads are braided together into a single rope, instead of hanging as six separate loops. The twist gives a fuller, rounder look on the neck and stops the strands from tangling. It is made from 100% natural Braj Tulsi wood, hand-braided in Vrindavan, in 2mm beads at about 18 inches.

What Does "6 Layer Twisted" Mean?

Six strands of Tulsi beads are strung separately, then twisted together along their whole length so they hold as one rope. This is not the same as a six-round kanthi, where six loops simply hang side by side. The difference shows within a week of wearing — loose strands rotate against each other through the day and slowly knot near the clasp, a small daily job anyone who has worn a multi-round kanthi knows well. A twisted mala can't do this, because the strands are already locked into each other by the braid.

Why Tulsi on the Neck?

Tulsi ji is no ordinary plant. Devotees call her Vrinda Devi and Tulsi Maharani, and Shri Krishna honours her above all. To carry Tulsi wood on the neck is to keep that holy presence close through every ordinary hour of the day. A fuller kanthi like this one is often chosen by devotees who want that mark plainly visible — at work, in the market, among people who do not know them. Wearing It for the First Time

Caring for a Braided Kanthi

A twisted mala needs slightly different handling, because six threads share the load:

• Never Pull It Over Your Head — Open the clasp instead. Forcing a braided rope over the head stretches the strands unevenly and the twist begins to loosen
• Don't Untwist It to "Straighten" It — The rope is meant to hold its turn. Undoing it by hand won't put it back the way the artisan set it
• Hang It, Don't Coil It — Tight coiling works against the braid. Hang it or lay it flat in a Gomukhi bag
• Remove Before Bathing — Tulsi wood absorbs water and weakens with repeated soaking
• Avoid Soap, Perfume and Chemicals — A dry cloth is all it needs
• Natural Darkening Is Normal — The wood darkens slowly with wear; many devotees treasure it as the mark of a long-worn kanthi
• Restring, Don't Discard — If a strand gives way, bring the whole mala for restringing — the beads are Tulsi ji and are traditionally kept

How to Know It Is Real Tulsi

Much of what is sold online as Tulsi is ordinary wood, stained and polished to look the part. Four checks you can do at home when it arrives:

• Smell — Real Tulsi carries a faint, dry herbal scent that lasts for months. Stained wood smells of polish, or of nothing at all
• Grain — Genuine Tulsi shows uneven grain and slight shade differences from bead to bead. Perfectly matched colour across every bead suggests dye
• Weight — Tulsi is noticeably light. A mala that feels dense for its size is likely another wood
• Damp Cloth — A stained bead will often leave colour on a damp white cloth. Real Tulsi will not
